About Catherine
I was born and brought up in South London, the middle child of 5. Coming from a Catholic background, and a large extended family, there always seemed to be funerals to attend, and from a very early age my mum always seemed to choose me to accompany her. Over the years, I found I was the one representing our family at funerals, being asked to speak, read or deliver a eulogy.
I’m now a mother and grandmother (‘Nanny Cath’), and I’ve had a long career as an actor, working for many years on TV. I’m also a teacher and dog lover.
I’m often asked why I am a celebrant. My mum died in 2012, and of course her funeral was held in a Catholic Church. It was very well attended. But I felt that most people there, like me, were no longer religious. Something was missing. My mum was missing. My daughter, aged 11, read out a poem they’d written, but that was the most personal element of the service.
That is why I’m a celebrant. I want to create ceremonies where the loved one is the central focus and is remembered with honour, love and dignity, and to use my life’s experiences of love and loss to help you celebrate their life in the most fitting way possible.
I’m now based in Chesham, in the lovely Chilterns. I mainly lead ceremonies across the area, including Amersham, the Chalfonts, Great Missenden, Berkhamsted and High Wycombe, but I’m happy to travel anywhere you need me.
